Unique Chemistries

Natural Plant Products (NPP) has focused on botanicals with novel triglycerides, functionality, and a distinctive skin feel for over 30 years.

Our products are viable natural alternatives to synthetic emollients thanks to their luxurious texture, lightweight emollience, and long-lasting oxidative stability. The long-chain fatty acids in our oils, used either alone or in combination with other natural oils, extend the oxidative stability of formulations for naturally-based personal care and beauty products.

Meadowfoam Oil: Superior Natural Oxidative Stability Index (OSI)

Meadowfoam’s OSI Value helps…

제품 효능 유지

  • 외관 및 향기 보호
  • 품질과 신선도 유지
  • 활성 성분 보존
  • 피부 자극을 유발할 수 있는 산화를 감소시킵니다.

포뮬레이션 비용 절감

  • Reduces need for expensive antioxidants, stabilizers, and preservatives

According to USDA 연구, adding as little as 5% of meadowfoam to other oils will significantly increase the oil’s oxidative stability, with some improvements over 2,000%!

Even when adding Meadowfoam to a more stable oil such as Jojoba, Jojoba’s OSI improved by 70%!

Superior Moisture Retention: Long & Very Long-Chain Fatty Acids

Meadowfoam oil has over 95% long-chain fatty acids

(LCFA >61% + VLCFA >34%) that support cosmetic product’s moisture retention, wrinkle reduction, and anti-aging capabilities, while also providing natural antioxidants such as vitamin E to help resist oxidative stress caused by free radicals and environmental aggressors.

Long-Chain fatty acids (LCFA)

LFCA are major components of the skin’s lipid membrane and are critical for the skin’s barrier function by helping to retain moisture and protect against external irritants.

Very Long-Chain fatty acids (VLCFA)

VLCFA have a key role in maintaining the skin’s barrier function and preventing water loss, while contributing to the mechanical and chemical robustness of the skin’s outer layer.

Sun Protection: Reducing the Impact of Ultraviolet B Radiation

A 2018 study by Oregon State University College of Pharmacy showed meadowfoam has UV absorption capacity that helps reduce UVB radiation that can damage skin cells. The study also found that meadowfoam compounds helped prevent sun-induced aging and skin wrinkling by blocking the activation of enzymes that degrade collagen.

More research needs to be done, but a good overview by Allure magazine can be found here.
